OK, maybe I was a little harsh, but I still say that the vast majority of mass market bottled beers (on the typical supermarket shelf) are more about product marketing than quality of the product.

Ah well - our local supermarket isn't typical in that respect :-) (Booths)

Green King India Pale Ale is not too bad. Local Morrisons does 4 bottles for a £5.

Well its not really a bottle conditioned ale... hence my not including it in the current headline favourites!

Never before have I heard such truth.

My FIL took me to the brewery as a wedding present for me. His mate worked there so it was free.

For the last 14 years we've been driving over to the Czech Republic and Poland for our summer holidays. We live in Preston, Lancashire, so the first leg of our journey is from here, do the Dover - Calais ferry crossing and then up to Ostend for our first stop. We always stop in the Hotel Marion

because the hotel bar, the Cafe Botteltje

has 13 draft beers on and over 300 beers in total - plus about 40 or 50 Jenevers (gin-based drinks). Highly reccommended!! :o)

Excellent!! I've got a picture (framed, so it's not scanning well) of me behind the brewery bar pulling a pint after doing the brewery tour - well, pretending to actually, 'cos they wouldn't let me do it for real :o(

If you ever get back to the country again, two more breweries well worth a visit are the Pilsner Urquell in Plzen and the Chodovar brewery near Marianske Lazne

Even Tesco have some good stuff now. How about Hobgoblin, or Leffe (says he looking at this weeks receipt) or my son's favourite Innis and Gunn? (though that appears to be Greene King again...)

OP is an abomination to what is was when I was a lad. Grottish and Screwcastle destroyed it when they took the brewery over.
