I collect my old batteries and every 6 months or so drop them into the recycling bin at my local supermarket. Not just the AA and coin-cell type but also dead laptop batteries and similar.
But I wonder if I'm wasting my time. It's hard to see how the energy expended in recovering recyclable material from them can be more environmentally beneficial than dumping them in landfill.
Note I'm not including car batteries - the amount of lead in those clearly makes them worth recycling.
Do other people here bother? Any thoughts?
