Grouting and Tiles

Hi,

I have put up some tiles - they are a kind of worn brick look effect. But after groutin them, a light layer of the grout has covered the face of the tiles in some parts thereby dulling them. Does anyone know of anything that is recommended to remove that light layer of grout that can cover tiles after grouting - obviously without removing the grout between the tiles.

Thanks for any feedback...

Wipe off the bulk of the grout while wet, and then wait until it is completely dry. Now just give it a good rub over with some kitchen towel and the fine powder should rub off. The trick is not to wet it again while cleaning the residue off - otherwise you will always find a white film after it dries.

For normal grout water works well enough. Combined adhesive and grout, hot water is better. Epoxy grout, probably paint stripper....

Brick acid or an acid lime descaler. Yes it removes a little grout, but when you want to pull 5 thou off the tiles, a 5 thou off the cracks won't even notice..

Sponge it on and then wash with clean water.

Elbow grease.

As John says clean off the grout as you work to leave a slightly powdery surface. Allow to dry and then polish the tiles thoroughly with a dry cloth. Scrape off any missed snots or smears of grout with something softer than the tiles, like a bit of wood, and keep on polishing!

If you have to wet an area to aid cleaning, keep that area small and dry thoroughly before continuing with the polishing otherwise you will spread another layer of film that will have to be polished off and so on...
