cordless circular saw

I took a look at both of these at a recent tool show, albeit somewhat casually as I wasn't in the market for one at the moment. So it was mainly a feel of the weight and balance, the plate and the securing thereof. I wasn't able to actually run them.

Both seemed to be well made and balanced and the mechanics sturdy. It wasn't obvious from this amount of looking which to go for, short of actually trying the tool.

So...... I think that I would look at the remaining factors.

- Both have a 2.6Ah NiMh battery arrangement. THe Bosch, being 24v could appear to have higher torque, but actually may not because it has a higher no load speed.

- The Bosch is 1kg heavier. Are you thinking of this to use in awkward situations, like on a roof? If so, the weight may matter.

- THe Bosch has a 3 yr warranty

- The Bosch recharges in half the time.

I guess that you have a specific reason for wanting a cordless saw. Personally I don't do anything where I think that a cordless one is a benefit - e.g. perhaps roof work, and there is obviously a big price premium for cordless. If it's for ripping sheet material, I don't think that I would put a cordless saw high on my list of wants.

I can see applications though and guess that you have one of these in mind. In that case, I would focus heavily on the ergonomics. If you are going to go for a cordless saw, I don't think that the difference between £295 and £320 should be a deciding factor - in context the difference is negligible.

Im thinking of buying of buying a cordless circular saw, either the 18volt makita or the bosch 24v. Does anybody have any opinion on which is better.
