OT: You Tube inoperative

Folks, I have had this on a computer NG since Jan 20, but there has been NO response, so ifyoudontmind, I'll copy it here & hope for a dose of your expertise. I can't think of any events that might have precipitated it; just stopped working. I CAN play other videos in messages, etc.

===========================

YouTube used to work on my PC (Windows XP), but for the last month or so, when I click on it, just a black rectangle appears, with no arrows for Play. I have tried deleting and reinstalling YouTube, but no luck. What could be causing this and what can I do about it?

You don't install YouTube, so I don't understand what you're trying to say there. You access YouTube via a web browser. What browser are you using? Have you tried using another browser, and if so, do you get the same result? Have you cleared your cache and cookies from the browser, closed the browser, rebooted the pc, then tried accessing YouTube once again? Have you installed the latest version of Flash? Also, if you're using any add-ons with the browser (ad blockers, etc.) disable them and then try again. If you're using Firefox, try launching it in safe mode and try YouTube again.

YouTube plays in your Web browser using Adobe Flash Player. Your installation of Flash may be broken.

Look at the bottom right-hand side of the page, below where it says "Downloads". Click on Adobe Flash Player and allow it to install. Once the install is finished, YouTube videos should play. It is wise to restart your computer before using the new install.

What Web browser are you using? Microsoft Internet Explorer?

You and I are talking about different kinds of safe modes. Firefox safe mode (which you access in Windows via Start > Programs > Mozilla Firefox > Mozilla Firefox [Safe Mode]) launches the browser without any of the add-ons or other tools the user may have installed, one or more of which might be creating a conflict with YouTube.

Damn. When I saw the subject line, I expected YouTube was gone and American productivity would skyrocket.
