Woodworking without a surface planer

I am frustrated and feel limited without having a surface planer. Ihave a substantial pile of wood (birch, walnut, oak, and elm) which wasgiven to me, but without a planer to dimension any of it, my projectshave been limited to what dimensioning I can do with my TS, jointer,and ROS. Unfortunately, spending even $200 is not an option within thenext 12 months, so I can't just go out and buy a planer. Does anybodyhave any experience in surfacing lumber with just a TS and jointer? Ifeel like no matter how much I practice, I'm not going to be able toget smooth parallel surfaces.

A local cabinet or mill works shop would probably surface it for you fairly cheaply. I buy wood from one near me - the good thing is they'll surface it to any thickness you want - full 3/4" no problem. 13/16 not problem... straight line and belt sanding are other options they offer.
