Wood with light green tint

I have a chest that i am restoring and after getting layers of paint off i found that the wood has a light green tiny to it and is good looking peace, i was wondering what type of wood it is and what type of stain would bring out the best result. Chuck

It could be any wood but with a green tint it could be poplar.

Stains will mask a wood appearance. If you want to enhance the existing grain and simply want to add a layer of protection clear varnish will be fine.

Poplar can have a green tint, but it changes to tan/brown tones with exposure to light, even with a clear finish.

I vote poplar, also.

Magnolia has green steaks in it, sometimes.

what color was the paint you stripped off

many times the paint will impart its color to the wood

if the wood is green now what color do you want it to be
