Seeking Popular Woodworking Table Saw Issue

Dec 18, 2004 0 Replies

Happy hoildays everyone!

I am in the market for a new tablesaw, wishing to upgrade from a Ridgid TS3612 which I bought about 2 1/2 years ago. I was planning to buy a Delta 36-L31X-BC50, but I'm stuck since although I find many praising the saw, I see equally many disparaging it, particularly recently. I'd be willing to spend the extra to buy a Powermatic 66, but I've read some having problems with that as well (e.g., fence UHMW not sitting flat, table top dished or spooned, etc.). I just want to buy something that's quality, that I will be happy with, and that I won't regret buying. Some others praise Jet, General, and Grizzly. Who knows?!!

Although magazine reviews are often biased and must be taken with a grain of salt, I still wanted to pick up a copy of the July 2004 "Special" issue of Popular Woodworking , "The Ultimate Table Saw Guide", just to glean the information it has. Unfortunately, as a subscriber, one doesn't receive these special issues - they must apparently be bought at the newsstand. Well, I didn't even know about the issue until recently and of course no one is still selling the issue. In fact, Popular Woodworking is sold out of these so I can't buy this back issue.

I wonder if anyone:

(1) has any advice for me regarding choosing a new saw

(2) has this July 2004 issue that they might be willing to sell or loan to me (or where I might find one)

(3) has any suggestions on selling my Ridgid contractor saw (in excellent condition)

I am in Bucks County, PA.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
