Minor gloat

I've been coveting one of those $179 Rockwell clamps since they were introduced a few years back, but couldn't justify the investment for a once-in-a-blue-moon shop buddy. Got a brand new one on CL for $60. And I scored four Crapsman corner clamps for $40 yesterday.

So what is Crapsman? It doesn't sound good. Are you actually bragging that you took the time to piss your money away on an known to be crappy, inferior product?

Is that your gloat?

Inquiring minds....

Crapsman is the most fitting term for Searz junk. But he spent good money on them for some reason. I have no idea why.

No, I believe the Jawhorse was.

Holy SHIT!

Was I that obtuse?

I was making a sarcastic comment about the stupidity of purchasing an known inferior product, gloat or not.

OK..... let me be clear:

Why would someone deliberately blow their money on junk tools, come here and blow their bugle about it? Why does anyone purchase products that they know may not or will not work? If it is because they are on sale, or a "good deal", that is even more stupid.

When you purchase crap, it is crap, no matter what you call it, no matter what you paid for it. When you buy crap, that is all it will ever be.

Bragging here about your propensity to purchase poorly made, known inferior products from a questionable vendor simply because they were on sale is stupefying.

An example in case I was unclear again:

"Hey look, I bought a really crappy product that won't do the job and will probably break when I use it leaving me with NOTHING to do my work. I know I got screwed and I am too embarrassed to call out the actual brand, BUT IT WAS ON SALE!!! Wheeee!! Pretty smart of me, eh?"

What would you say to that person if you actually met them? Would you turn and walk off? Would you congratulate them? I don't have any idea why people screw themselves on purpose then crow about it.

*sigh*

Soooooo many things I don't understand about our society anymore...

I'd take him to a pub and pour 12 pints of cheap draught into him and explain the philosophy behind it: "THIS is how you blow perfectly good money." I have a pair of Crpsman corner clamps.. had them for 30+ years. I use them when assembling drawers...lightweight tasks...they're fine, but.... H E Y ! !

*throws a fist-full of 100 dollar bills into the air for effect!!!* . . . .

Well Lew, yes I did. I went to >Harbor Fright< to pick up some crappy tools and they were out of the ones I wanted.

Hah!

I like the small crappy wire brushes they have there--sometimes on sale for 3 for $.99. I think the same set is on sale at Rockler for 2.99 or so.

I often wonder myself why some one would berate something he has just spent money on and be gloating about it.

Come on Larry, Junk??? Wouldn't Craftsman tools be at least a step up from Harbour Freightt, your favorite store??? LOL

No laughing is allowed on this subject.

Google my rants here from several years ago. I lost gallons of blood and pounds of flesh to their goddamned handtools in the late '70s. Literally, not figuratively. I think Searz got their Crapsman stuff back then from the -waste- stream of Harbor Freight. Fuck Crapsman. Fuck Searz. I haven't shopped there in over 30 years.

Technically, if you're talking about the old Sears Roebuck and Co.-it doessn't exist anymore. Ask any shareholder of Sears (or Kmart). Border's too--as of last month.

Larry, Sorry to hear about your accident of 30+ years ago.

I thought I was the one who coined the term "Home Despot". Doesn't mean I don't like the place, I just enjoy playing with names.

I hadn't realized that it was poetic, but I see it now. Har!

It wasn't a decade before they got into more trouble with their automotive centers telling people they needed parts which were nearly brand new. They closed those centers as a result of that. What a truly wonderful company.

No, it was a series of truly shitty tools taking half an ounce of each at a time, compounded by Searz managers denying instant tool exchange even when Crapsman was written right on the damned thing, etc, etc. for over a year. I finally decided to boycott Searz entirely and never again buy a Crapsman anything. I've been happier without 'em, too.

--------------------------------------- Firestone was guilty of the same thing before Brigestone bought them out.

I was directed by my employer not use Firestone for company vehicle service.

This was in the '70s.
