JET TS package on Amazon... query

Folks:

Amazon has a deal on a Jet 3 HP TS with router lift and bosch router for $1700... Do any of you have this saw? I have been going over the top brands - Delta, PM, General, and handn't considered a Jet until I came across this..

I was very much impressed by the feeback at Amazon on the saw. I have heard horror stories about Delta along with "trunion issues" and also recent quality control issues at PM. Very much a mixed bag by way of service for these "gold standard" brands..... So.... Any input from y'all?

Where are these saws made? Are Delta's TS, the X5's American made? PM? I know that General is Canada and Gen Int'l is Chaiwanese... Is Jet as well? My Bosch 4412 SCMS was made in Taiwan and it is tough as a tank and deadly accurate... I'd like to buy American, but it is getting harder and harder to do so.... So, how about some help here...

Here's the link at Amazon....

JET 708663DXK JTAS-10XL JET Left-Tilt Xacta Saw with 50" Fence, Router Lift, Upgrade Fence, and Bosch Router

Thanks in advance. I'd especially like to hear from any of you that OWN or have used this saw, especially in relation to the other makes. I use an old Unisaw tank in my WW class and have an old craftsman contractor saw in my home shop. I live out in the sticks, so I don't have the ability to do much by way of hands on comparisons.

BTW, I am finishing sanding the walnut cradle for my niece's newborn, due a week from tomorrow.... I attached the rockers last night, I've carved my name and date in the bottom panel, and etched a copper plate with her family's surname, Banks, for the headboard of the cradle. I should put two coats of oil on it tomorrow, then some wax and I'll give it to her Wednesday or Thursday. Pics to follow....

John,

I have had the Jet JTAS TS since June of 2000. I am quite pleased with the saw. Fit and finish were great and still are. I have not had to readjust anything. IIRC Jet is built in Taiwan. Country of manufacture is not so much an issue as much as the manufacturing specs that the factory is given to build the equipment. Delta did have an U.S. factory issue with torqueing the trunion bolts inconsistently a few years back which caused some to break during shipping. Since the cause has been isolated, there have not been as many comments brought up on that problem. As you have witnessed, your Bosch SCMS is built in Taiwan and you seem to be pleased with it. Some owners of U.S. built machines are not so pleased. Jet has a very good reputation and their service is great. With any large purchase I would advise you to try to buy from a local dealer. IMHO it is just as important to buy from a local dealer to support your local economy regardless of brand as it is to buy a product from a particular country of origin. Your local dealer will be more help in the event the saw arrives damaged and can answer questions particular to your saw. Most likely your local dealer will not deliver a damaged saw. He will be a bit more expensive in many cases but he can provide you a valuable service if you need it.

I bought this package from a local dealer a year ago. The saw went together without a hitch. All the parts were there and in the correct quantity. The fit and finish are excellent. The saw and router have performed flawlessly on everything as long as I do my part. My price a year ago was $1200. I have not priced it recently. John from South Carolina

I bought this saw last January... also did the mobile base too. I Paid the Amazon price, but from a local dealer. I love the router lift and the Bosch router is a honey (better than my PC). I love the saw, the fit and finish were excellent; I really like the HTC upgrade on the fence with the snap off sides. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
