Hickory Tree

Feb 12, 2017 0 Replies

Got the hickory tree cut up: Three 9' logs, two 6' logs and two forked se ctions. Have to wait to dig out the rootball, to see what it looks like.

The tree seems to have been lightning struck and there's damage along one s ide. The transverse cuts reveal some spalting-looking wood, along the lig htning struck edge/scar, so hoping the lumber density/integrity is not too compromised. I'll take a chance on it and have it milled.

BIL is hauling the logs out, today, and I hope to bring them to the mill th is week.

I picked up a few pieces for mallets and I cut most of the limbs for firewo od.
