CMS vertical capacity - What's the point?

Crown Molding

The Dewalt 706 CMS has a verticle cutting capacity of 6" and the new Delta dual bevel has even more. A single bevel Dewalt 705 gives you 4.25".

What is the point of these greater verticle capacities over that of a single bevel saw? Is there any time you would actually need this much capacity or are they just chasing a spec to sell more saws and get more market share?

Apparently you have never tried to cut 5" or 6" baseboard while it's standing up. It can't be done on a 10" CMS in the past. A saw with that much capacity would be wonderful for the trim carpenters of the world... I got a 12" because of a single job that had 5" baseboard.

What not just lay the board flat?
