broken dehumidifier

I've a dehumidifier that's no longer doing it's job. I really don't know the inner workings, but is there a pump/compressor that could be used as a pump for veneering in there? It's a Goldstar, about 20pints perday capacity.

This is of course assuming that the part I'm hoping to salvage isn't the one that's broken.

A dehumidifier is basically a very small air conditioner unit that removes moisture from the air as it passes over the evaporator coli then re-warms the air as it passes oer the condenser coil for a miimal change in the air temperature.

The usual failure mode is loss of refrigerant due to a leak. The compressor can probably be used as a vacuum pump, but it won't move a lot of air or draw a high vacuum quickly.

Then it sounds ok for my use. neither high volume nor quick is a concern since the veneer/vacuum bag it's going to be attached to will be nearly empty to start.

thanks for the info.
