Hi There, I'm going to make some nice bird nesting boxes for my garden does anyone know the correct hole size to cut for bluetits as I've heard the hole size matters and if its not correct the birds wont nest in it any ideas Thanks

There are any number of sites which give dimensions for bird boxes suiting USA/Canadian birds. I would be surprised if there wasn't at least one for the UK but I certainly couldn't find one when I searched with Google. Possibly you could contact your local wildlife personnel to see if they can provide any leads. The local birder's group might be of help also

It certainly is true that my local birds are particular about the box dimensions although some of them although woodpeckers, in particular, will take it upon themselves to modify what I provide. Then there are the squirrels which seem to delight in enlarging the holes until they might pass largish hawks. :-(

There is a plan here:

sheet metal plate (with the correct sized hole helps to deter the squirrels... a 22 rifle deters them longer. :-)
