Ball is selling plastic mason jar covers which may be easier to use than the standard two piece metal covers for thinners, etc...
I found them in my local grocery store.

How well do they hold up to alcohol, laquer thinner, etc?

Lacquer thinner is one thing, but plastic usually holds up very well to alcohol.

Agreed. I suppose one could use aluminum foil under the cap for the nasty stuff.
