After too many sales calls to count, we finally decided that YouFibres offer was too good to beat.

Started the OneTouch switch process. Looking forward to saving £65/month over Virgin.

Installation engineer has just been and said unless a new pole is installed on our side of the road we can whistle as the height from the pole they did fit (the other side of the road) is under the 5.5m required.

Obviously it's left me a little browned off. A quick grep of the bumf doesn't reveal a weasel "survey" anywhere.

All potential DIY solutions (i.e a sodding great 6m pole on the side of the house) were discounted as "health and safety".

WEll it appears it actually wasn't.

HOW much? My fibre is around £30 a month.

Try a decent ISP . I use IDNET.

Their current entry level is more than I have or pay from them - its

115Mbps at £37.50 per month. Supply and configure your own router, fixed IP address standard.

They use openreach fibre - or others if available in your area.. Openreach are supposed to be able to reach everywhere that's been fibred, or else.

Other good ISPs are A & A and Zen.

It amazes me that people spend ages trying to knock the price of a pint of beer of their broadband and then moan about support and congestion Pay more and dont drink on the last day of every month
