The only change I made to my 22 year old kitchen was to replace the area around the butler sink with granite - the oak simply rotted under the spslahing.
Everything else has lasted just fine - excpet the undercabinet kickboards. Those were veneered chip and died the death. Ive got solid oak left over and one day....
