Whoops. Not CPU fan but power supply fan

Sorry folks. Got that wrong. Its the power supply fan that is up the left.H ave had the power supply out and cleaned it but that lasted about 3 hours n ow its noisier than ever.

Replacement powers supply is coming in about £60 hence my attempt to cure it.

you can re fan PSUs although it may take a soldering iron..

You can also take the quickie route and tape a replacement fan onto the out side of the psu inside the pc case. No unscrewing or soldering required.

One drop on a heavy oil in the bearing (car engine oil - one drop from the end of a dip-stick).. You will probably have to take the sticky label off the fan to get at the bearing.

Snag is by the time the bearing is noisy for whatever reason, the chances are it's already worn so oiling will likely only be a temporary fix.

Most fans are of the same sort of design, so should be replaceable quite easily - for a lot less than a new PS. They normally have details of their spec printed on them - usually on the side you can't see. ;-)
