Don't think this is exactly what you're after but does give some information. You need to search for the relevant newsgroups.

There is a free utility available which allows anyone to compile statistics. :-) But I have forgotten where :-(

Please don't post the stats to the group -- such stats only ever have the effect of reducing the signal to noise ratio in newsgroups.

IME stats give interesting information about a group and are signal. Not that I am interested enough to do the job myself.

The MS one was quite interesting - you can see what other groups people post to as well.

It's not the quantity that counts, it's the quality. Also people change email addresses. The statistics fail to identify Drivel on both counts.

No. Quantity of posts tells you very little. Publishing figures encourages pointless postings which damage the group's signal to noise ratio. Please don't.

If you dislike pointless postings which damage the group's "signal to noise ratio", then let's *hear* your condemnation of those that perpetrate them. I will leave my ears open, but I won't hold my breath.
An effective way to reduce the S:N is to keep replying to posts made by some posters. Namely, the type who is reluctant to modify their view in the face of counter evidence from a) The laws of science, maths and the UK. b) The experience of people who have already tried it.
