Which blowtorch?

Looking for one that will see very little use, but needs to solder 22mm copper pipe. So the cheap is good, as long as it can do the job. Any sugestions? The Rothenbergers got slated at Screwsatan, and seem unnecessarily expensive.

I've got two Rothenburgers. One is about 30 years old and the other about 20, both are still working like new. They were used constantly/daily when I was a plumber before I retired.

Any piece of crap will do for a basic pipe soldering job.

I mean how hard is a valve a nozzle and a burner tube and a cylinder of gas?

This one has served me OK, lights first time, needs a minute or two to warm up if you're going to tilt it past 45 degrees, handles 22mm joints.

That's what I thought, but can't find my piece of crap one anywhere. Maybe the bad Screwsatan reviews are just poor workmen, I don't know.

I'd expect these to be OK too (numerous similar offers on eBay)

You'd think? I had return three blowtorches one after the other to Homebase, then demanded a refund, because they kept popping and going out. Got one from Wickes instead.

Can't resist your lie about you being a plumber ............... as in qualified. So, just stop your lying.

+1 on the Rothenburger (Super Fire 2). Fast start, hot flame, spares available, nice piece of kit.

+2 for the Rothenburger Super Fire 2 although I do use it with MAP. Trigger operation so it can be switched off when put down and instantly started again when picked up - it works inverted without problems.

Lovely, a China special should do the job. Thanks.

Before I get one, 2 questions to which I assume the answer is no:

  1. I've got a small camping gas stove. Any likelihood that could do it?
  2. I've got an Aldi gas mini soldering torch kit, about 8" long plus assorted bits. "?
  3. Who's got my Taymar?

HOMEBASE. YOU BOUGHT SOMETHING AT HOMEBASE?

Even their Christmas trees died before Christmas.

Is "Screwsatan" a reference to both Screwfix and Toolstation together?

Lol.

Ha Ha! Maybe they might be different now they've been taken over. After then, I bought some fence panels click&collect online, because they were the cheapest. Instore, the labels still showed the previous expensive prices. When I queried it, they said I would have only had to pay the new price at the checkout! Obviously the staff have no interest in sales.

Yup :)

Often nothing wrong with China specials, IME

Maybe, provided you can move the pipe round to spread the heat evenly. Certainly possible to put a fitting on the end of a (free) length of 15 mm pipe that way.

Unlikely to have enough heat output. But do you have a hot air gun? I believe that with a concentrator nozzle you might be able to do it (although I have never tried myself).

You have, it will turn up when you buy a replacement
