Engine oil is not water soluble, mix a small amount at 20-1 in water, shake bottle and leave to stand. After 5min most of the oil/water will have separated, after 12 hours you will have nice clear water in the bottom, so not much use in a pumped system.

Oil companies add a variety of additives to engine oil to prevent metal to metal contact, as wall as detergents, anti-oxidants, etc none of which would do you much good breathing in as a mist or vapour. Emulsified oil is also a wonderful biological soup waiting to happen, which would again be unpleasant for you and your respiratory system. Cutting oil contains biocides to prevent this.

FWIW I have used Rocol Ultracut for 25 years in my workshop, its so cheep mixing any old oil with water is not worth while. But I will repeat the bit you sniped
