I have little to boast about, so you must excuse me.

I had them asking for a postcode when I was miles from home and I came upon an accident. How was I supposed to know?

The emergency services had trouble finding Hillsborough stadium on that fateful day.

Had that happen just a few years ago, could give them NGR and LAT/LONG in the usual format and decimal but No can do! what's your postcode?, I don't bloody know so in the end the recovery firm called me and asked me to describe the land around!, they seemed to like my description and they found me pretty quickly!..

Mind you what three words is useful, had to collect the offspring from a dance music fest the other day. Asked her to tell me where she was and i told her where i was its simple said i walk with the moon on your right hand side around 200 metres! The what?? came the reply?? MOON that bloody shiny thing in the Sky but it did work. But difficulty with comms one cell site with thousands trying to use it, inc some of the stewards best use Two way radio on dedicated frequencies for that".

FWIW if you cant make a voice call cos of congestion try a text they IIRC are on differing channel to voice. You will still need data thruput to load i up the W3W mapping..

I think its rather that they are very low bandwidth and will get through where voice wont

All mobiles are on te same spread spectrum channel, - its how the digits are processed that makes a difference.

It like model planes - these days they are on wifi frequencies and share the same channel, and use a collision detection algorithm to back off until there us a clear slot to transmit their burst of data in - and its very low. 8 servos at 8 bit resolution 20 times a second is only 1.2kbps

Nevertheless it was amusing to see the effect of 50+ models in the air at a model show, with people wondering why their models took up to half a second to respond sometimes...
