Wallpaper Stripping Q.

Hi,



I'm currently stripping wallpaper off a wall which previously only had a single layer of paint that was applied as part of the original house (as the house is only twelve or so years old).



The paper is coming off with the paint in some areas and leaving bare plaster. I know it's going to be a bit of a pain to get it all nice and neat to paint over again so it's nice and smooth, but was wondering if anyone could offer any hints or tips to make the job easier and prevent the need for lots of sanding!?!?

Presumably the paint underlying the paper is emulsion - in which case steam paper strippers will take it of if used with persistence.

You'll most likely find that two coats of good emulsion will completely cover and hide any patches/edges. You will have to really, really clean the walls, though, or the new paint won't adhere properly to the remnants of the paste. Wash again and again until it's not in the least "slimy". Apply a good vinyl emulsion such as Dulux "Trade" silk (there are other good ones, but that is widely available and standard). If you use another sort, make sure it's got a VOC (on the container) of at least "Low VOC content 0.30% to 7.99%", not minimal, else it won't be vinyl!
