Variable speed reversable drill - £5.00

just noticed that netto have a drill for a fiver from 3rd april

I know cheap price means poor quality but I guess you can't go too far wrong for 5 quid even if you only use it a couple times.

wrong. even at a fiver it will be rubbish. chances are you'll plug it in and when you try to drill a hole it will stay static and roatate your entire house around it's chuck :o)

And make sure the "reverse" switch hasn't been moved when you try to drill otherwise your drill bits won't last long .

On a slightly related topic. I was drilling holes for some nails in relatively soft brick. I found that the hole drilled at teh same speed with, and without hammer. Is not using hammer - as it's quieter - a bad idea?

It's less likely to damage the brick, but the bits will probably need sharpening sooner. If the drilling rate's the same that's about all there is, I should think!

I would have thought using hammer would give the bits a much harder time than without. I wouldnt normally use hammer on soft brick, unless encountering some hard mortar.
