UPS about to earn its keep?

About six voltage peaks (bulbs going very bright) in the last few minutes, with the UPS going into buck mode, something about to go pop down the road?

A failing neutral perhaps? John

Maybe, a few years back there were a series of brownouts late at night, then the next night it went off with a puff of smoke from the pavement a few houses away, road drills for a few hours.

WPD have one incident 2 miles away, as the crow flies ...

Does that happen with LEDs? Assuming you have LEDs.

Yes, they're on at 50% brightness and 'flashed' to noticeably higher brightness

Interesting. So they were dimmed.

It's not something I have seen before.

smart lamps with internal dimmer

That is weird, I've had the opposite, where my neighbours say things go dim for about half a minute or so. Not noticed it since I can't see, but a dab radio did crash each time. My guess is lack of good preventative maintenance as usual, unless somebody's putting power back into the grid in the wrong sort of way, but I don't see much solar working much this weather!

Brian

A few alarms got set off, but the mains seems to have behaved since

Or one that has been spirited away by the romanian fairies

would this happen if 2 phases were shorted together momentarily ?.
