Turbocharging a gas barbecue.

I find that I need to be far more careful when cooking on propane (on caravan/camping hobs) than when using butane. It's much easier to burn food and needs more control.

That's not my experience - but I can do without the song.

If you spend too much time doing it you're not doing it properly the first time, are you! I used to fix the hoover then Spouse bought an Oreck for himself and I dumped the hoover. It's years since the washer broke down, when it does he'll want to repair it. He sees it as a slur on his manhood if I offer to do that sort of thing.

The flavour should be the meat to begin with. You only need to add flavour if your meat is sub standard.

I think per cubic foot of the two gases butane has more BTU's but the propane is more volitile. Butane has a boiling point at around 0c while propane is much lower at around -5c

Convenience. I do prefer to cook on a good charcoal barbecue but it's not much use for spur of the moment barbecues, particularly when one's cooking relatively small quantities. Would you fire up a charcoal barbecue for a light meal for one adult and two kids?

My gas barbecues get used a lot more than my old charcoal one ever did for those simple reasons.

If you have lavarocks or some other fat vapouriser above the burner, I'm not sure if it really makes that much difference.

A lot lower actually, -42C.

That still doesn't satisfactorily explain (to my mind anyway) why propane should burn hotter. The burner is designed for both and there's no mention in the manual concerning heat output on different fuels.

grill to the fire gods. It was loaded with charcoal, with one briquette smoldering, and 5 gallons of LOX were dumped on, causing the grill to melt down and then almost completely vaporize."

Some people would have asked for a refund. Not sure what they'd take back though.
