When putting a teeny sprinkle of pepper into three litres of stew check that the cap on the very large container of pepper is properly screwed on.

My wife's technique, knowing her place and doing all the catering, is to turn my omelette, or whatever, over. I often sneeze during meals.

BTDTGTTS. In my case it was one portion of pasta sauce and mixed herbs.

I saw someone do that once. To our steaks he was cooking for our lunch. He scraped the excess pepper off and so it became steak au poivre. I wasn't about to not eat it as I was effin' starving.

But then the continental habit of serving salad with lunch came to the rescue - it was properly dressed and the oil on the lettuce took the peppery sensation away altogether.
