toilet syphon renewal???

It does sound like a diaphragm problem, and the fact that you found it was split supports that... you sure you've replaced it correctly?!

..or possibly a crack in the syphon itself..?

Is the diaphragm the right size and material? Is there a thing like a heavy washer that keeps it down, or another such method of doing that?

Do you have the water level in the reservoir high enough?

Does your syphon have a conical brass thing riding on the top, and did you put it back wide-end pointing up?

I replaced it how the previous one was taken out. As it was problematic before, I could have replaced a incorrectly fitted diaphram with another incorrectly fitted diaphram (I used the assumption "it must have been correct".

There is no brass thing on the top.

With regards to the crack - not sure, but I feel i must remove it again. One thing i remember is having to cut the diaphram to size as it was too big.

When removed I can have a look at if there is a crack or not.

Secondly, how should a correctly fitted diaphram look and what should it be held with etc.

I remember buying a pack of 2 diaphrams. it was blue in colour and like a slightly thicker piece of paper but in plastic.

Put a new siphon in at the weekend but with the same problem. The shop gave me a "high level" siphon even though my pan is connected to my cistern directly with no pipes.

Went back to my old one and found it worked better than the new one as the new one was shorter and caused problems with the ball lever.

Any further suggestions?

New problem. Reverted to replacing everything this weekend. Stripped out the old siphon and replaced it with a new pre-assembled "high level" siphon.

Turned on the water and tried flushing but no joy. Forced it and it worked. The new siphon was not as high as my old one and therefore caused problems with the ball lever.

Had to remove the new siphon and put the old one back in. Found this worked better than the new one.

My problem now is that why can't i flush the toilet normally. I don't have a high level toilet. My cistern is actually connected to the pan directly but the man in the shop said, they both used the same siphon? Is he correct?

Any more suggestions?
