tips sought for inflating large yinyl inflatable toys

ooh-er missus. I can't believe I'm asking this here, but never mind...

Has anyone got any tips on pumping up the cheap sort of inflatables that come out around this time of year?

I threw away our old inflatable paddling pool last year - it had done a few years good service - and have just bought something roughly equivalent - around the £20 mark so nothing special.

The last one had fairly large inlet holes which easily took the end of the hose from one of the cheapish pumps. But this one has reverted back to the smaller style, with a vinyl hood that you fold over, and a slit in the end (in the inner space of the inflated volume) that you are supposed to pinch to allow the nozzle, and air, in.

None of the nozzles I have (and I even have an extra set for such things) seems to properly fit, and it is very hard to tell if I am actually squeezing the valve properly or sufficiently to open up the slit and allow the air in. I spent 40mins or so last night (admittedly it was in the dark ;-) and ended up with just one compartment about a third inflated.

I know these are cheap crap and that everyone battles with this sort of thing at this time of year- but there must be some uk.d-i-y tips out there? Come on Rod, what do you have to say on the matter?

Thanks for any ideas

I have shoved a straw through the little internal safety flap thing to bypass it.

TBH when deflating the thing, not inflating it, but it might work both ways.
