Stuff doesn't last these days

Ha, well, I had to replace my talking one a few weeks ago, and although the new one works, the construction looks shoddy to me. 1 Handle is no longer solid, its just a plastic shell with voids out of site at the back

2 The Microwave window into the cavity is just a thin bit of bendy plastic which moisture can get into the waveguide around the edges. 3 The hinge on the door has nearly 1 quarter inch up down play in it. 4 It is claiming a anti rust stainless interior, but the top is so thin that it can be pushed up and down and rattles at around 100hz even when in standby. I'm not convinced its going to last as long as the old one with similar specs. The old one has a bit of rust in the turntable bearing slots, but otherwise looks good. I bet that the fault is a small psu for the electronics, not the high powr bit but nobody wants to fix them any more. Brian

Yes, well in my bedroom until quite recently the Amp for my stereo was a Rogers Cadet 2. Its showing signs of hum and crackly bits now, but nothing a bit of tlc would not solve. Its so old that when I bought it it was priced in Guineas. Brian

You'll discover, after the waranty expires, that it's not stainless.

All the newer microwaves I've seen have this really flimsy turntable system which falls off of its support ring at the slightest touch.

Our 43 year-old had a solid, substantial system - probably along with a much larger motor which would shrug off any minor obstruction which tried to stop it turning.

My microwave doesn't have a turntable. It has a plastic floor with a rotating reflector underneath

Fed up with frequently replacing the exhaust of my MkI Escort - I used to throw the back bit over a hedge when it failed, then replace the whole thing when the main silencer failed - I invested in a "stainless steel" exhaust. Which was OK until I found the brackets weren't stainless and I had to tie it up with rope.

That's what wire coathangers were invented for.

No, that's as a replacement telescopic radio aerial when the original has been ripped off by a scrote.

Or to terminate a pregnancy in the US where they don't seem to have knitting needles.

Or to attach water bottle to your belt:
