Stihl strimmer won't stop

Stihl split boom strimmer won't stop when off switch engaged.

Is this a simple fix ?

No idea, but is it electric, petrol 2-stroke, petrol 4-stroke, what?

It should be as the run / kill switch normally only shorts out part of the ignition circuit so when it fails (goes open circuit somewhere) you get what you are seeing.

If you go back to the engine and find where the single thin (not HT) wire comes out, check / follow that back to the switch (multi meter on continuity?) and also check there is a return / earth path back to the engine.

Is there an engine earth strap that has broken possibly?

should be. That normally shorts part of the magneto. Look for broken wire

Yes.

The wire that shorts out the magneto ignition when you want to stop it has fallen off somewhere.

The simplest "fix" is probably just to operate the choke lever, which will normally stop a warm engine with the throttle closed.

Been doing that on the ride-on mower today, seems like the switch or something has failed over the winter. (I did have to pull one of the plug caps off as well, one time).

I wonder if it's stopped yet?
