Space saving vacuum bags

Ive four of these and filled two some time ago. One failed with a hole in the bottom (i'm blaming the cat) and the other slowly puffed up (over a few weeks). The third one has puffed up after a day.

So are these things s**te? Are some brands notably better than others? Is it likely i'm doing it wrong?

I'll have another go and pay particular attention to the seals.....

Also pay attention to the valves where you suck out the air.

I've never had one that has stayed compressed for more than a few weeks. I've tried both the cheap pound store type and the thicker much more expensive variety.

Maybe OK for packing a case for a holiday etc. but for longer term storage of bulky air filled items I've resorted to using these bags to initially get the contents to the smallest size possible and then tightly straping them up.

You also need to pack a vacuum cleaner for the return journey? :)

We have 2 large ones for storing away from moths loads of woollens that are rarely used but, I am assured, will be one day. They have been known to stay tightly compressed for over a year. Can't help with the brand though: nothing marked on them. I only know they came from Tesco.
