Socket positioning

I am pretty sure this has been answered before but I cannot seem to find the topic either here or in the wiki. What are the current regulations for the positioning of sockets above floor level and near corners?

Approved Document Part M will give you the details for a new build.

However, if you are rewiring an existing pre-Part-M house, there are no special requirements other than special locations like bathrooms.

Generally wherever you like. Guidelines suggest at least 300mm from a sink / drainer and a hob. Part M kicks in for new builds and major extensions etc, then that imposes a above finished floor height of between 450mm and 1.2m IIRC.

AIUI, the heights are chosen so the socket can be reached from a wheelchair. there is also a related height limit for light switches for the same reason.
