We found with ours (after many years) the door gasket was impregnated with a bad smell. Only changing this part solved the smell.

I have running shoes like. Smell permenantly of cat pee and the only cure is new shoes. If you door seal is getting on a bit it would probably be worth trying.

This is due to bacteria build up from using powder with not enough oxygen bleach / bleach activator, too low pH and or hard water. The hot soda crystal wash should work but if water is hard needs to be followed by Tesco Washing Machine Descaler in a hot wash. Then only use a reputable powder or boost the performance of the powder with Oxiclean / Vanish.

Upon checking with the one who knows about these things it is actually Asda's own brand that has been used for the past 6-9 months, so this sounds suspiciously similar to your own experience and hopefully a change of liquid/powder will make the difference.
cheers

Do tell if it does ! Ours had 'recovered' within a couple of washes after changing liquid.
