Smart meter saga - part 2

UK Power turned up at 8 this morning, took a look at the header, and said they would need to dig up the cable to cut the power. But, that's a job for another day!

I managed to persuade them to dig the hole in a flower bed, rather than making a hole in the concrete drive.

Perhaps you should get Trading Standards involved as it is patently not smart or it would be doing all this stuff itself

Surely they would have to dig the hole where the cable is, rather than where it's most convenient? (Reminiscent of the story of the drunk who looks for his keys under the lamp rather than where he dropped them.)

It obviously doesn't matter where they cut the cable connecting my garage to the main cable in the road. The UKP guy thought it would go under the driveway to the road, but in fact the cable takes a slight detour to one side.

It's easier for them to dig the flower bed, and it's better for me not to have a patch in my drive. Plus, where he originally wanted to dig almost certainly had a drain in the way.

Why on earth do they need to dig up the cable to cut the power? Unless there's a buried switch (unlikely), they'll have to cut and re-join the cable live. So why not just change the head live - that's how they did mine.

He said the cables in the head were too close together.
