Smart meter initialisation query

Had two smart meters installed on Wednesday 1st February. They supplied a bluetooth based home display but it's too far from the meter to the nearest point I can find so it doesn't work. (It's a flat on the top floor [Ground/1st/2nd] of an Edwardian conversion so nice thick walls!).

Anyway, I tried the App which would be better than nothing. It's now Saturday and the app is saying they're having problems but it will all be fine "soon". I looked at (and photographed) both meters and the leccy one says 00000 and the gas one is blank.

How long does it typically take for smart meters to come online and start reporting?

The displays often have a small battery in them, although it doesn't last for long. They may need to stay within range of the meter for some days until the provisioning comes through. You could maybe try a USB powerbank if you have one?

It can take a couple of weeks.

Mine was up in 20 minutes before the fitter went in fact. Are you sure the bluetooth is out of range? Iy display goes all the way down my garden. but its the talking one. Brian

Mine was EDF, and as I say it was up in 20 mines. The remote display comes with a wall wart/charger, so no real issue there. I'd give the installers dept a call and ask what you should expect with your supplier. Brian
