Silent!! Bathroom pull swiitches

Anyone know of a make or source of quiet bathroom light pull switches.. Many moons ago I bought a series of very quiet switches called MUTEC I believe all of which used microswitches (tiny click) operated by levers or cams.. My current bathroom switch probably wakes up the neighbours and I would like to change that but at the moment the pullswitch in the 'en suite' has locked (welded) it self on and need replacing (it's probably twenty years old and was fairly quiet.. Sealed bubble packing prevents trying these things out in most stores!

*behind* a tile. Very silent... Very expensive - if anyone's interested, I'll dig out the web site.

Michael Shergold :

IKWYM. Our downstairs toilet light switch was also very noisy. I tested dozens in shops and they all made a really loud noise. Fortunately I found a decades-old switch that was unused in one of our bedrooms, and recycled that. Otherwise I think I'd still be looking.

Another option is to mount the switch on the wall outside. Then you could have a dimmer switch, if that's of any interest.

Not suitable for use with energy saving, low voltage, halogen or fluorescent lighting.

Hmm, that rules out most homes.

:(

Shame it looked quite good, tlc sell a ceiling mounted 360 dome sensor version I have though of putting into all my hallways and kitchen - its =A320 a unit though. On time can go up to an hour I think...

In my experience the quietest of the standard pull swithes are LeGrand. Available from CEF or used to be.

Thanks Adam I'll give CEF a try as they have an outlet near me.. Thanks for the other suggestions and help, most are not very appropriate for a replacement. Not sure why they have to be so noisy as ordinary wall switches are really quite quiet.. Its the string pull toggle mechanisms that really makes all that the noise. thanks again Michael

The usual manufacturers are missing an opportunity to give their product a marketing lead over the competitors.

I've a Superswitch 2-gang plate and it manages to combine a good, crisp action with quietness. Trouble is, I've only ever found Screwfix selling this brand and can't find the manufacturer or importer. On SF's site there's a 45A DP pull-switch (a bit OTT) and no 6A.

My last 2-way, 6A pull switch is a Crabtree - very nice - but could be used in the 1812 Overture!

If anyone can find Superswitch, I'd appreciate the link.

change for motion detection

Thete is no dB rating on that. The relay could be louder than a jumbo jet on takeoff at 50 metres :)

This device excludes use on fluorescent lighting which would suggest to me that it uses electronic switching (triac or similar) not a relay.

You could always ask a question on their website?
