Sick Workers on the Sidelines

They could make a start by clamping down on the 'free' motability car scam.

If you are given a company car and as a result the whole family derives benefit from it, then you have to pay company car tax, submitted to HMRC on the P11D return.

But if you have a free motability car and the whole family again derives (most of) the benefit, then there is no tax to pay. And they tend to come with free parking blue badges as well.

You want to tax people that don't have the money to pay it? And as a result leave them unable to get out anywhere. Maybe not the smartest. Keeping the cars longer before replacement would make sense these days.

I think that handing a £30K+ 'people carrier' to someone who has four kids but only the youngest, age 3 has spina bifida, looks like a loophole in the system. Her husband works full time so its not as if she is a 'single mother'.

Why would that be needed?

Woouldn't that also apply to a large number of car-owners who are not entitled under the Motability scheme? Should they too get a free (or reduced price) car and a free parking badge?

I ask merely for information.
