We have new side gates - a pair.
They look like garage doors and the inside is sheltered by the car port.
At the moment they are closed by a simple sash lock in a metal case, fitted externally - old style lock as opposed to a mortice sash lock.
The lock is crap - the key is a flat plate with a tiny slit down the middle to make it a 'two lever' (I assume) lock.
So I am looking for a proper security lock to upgrade the security.
I am thinking of an external lock again, mounted on the inside of the door with a key hole accessible from outside.
Yale style, I think.
I really don't know the buzz words to describe such a lock.
It isn't a high security requirement - you could go next door and half way down their garden then nip over the back fence to gain access - but it should discourage a frontal attack.
We want to be able to go out for a few hours and lock the door securely behind us, then use it as a back door to get in to the car port without having to go in the front door, through the house, then round the side to unlock it from the inside.
If we are away we will secure it with bolts from the inside.
Anyway, and guidance on style, maker, number of levers, additional features etc. would be welcome.
Cheers
