Hello, I am about to buy this front door, which will be painted:

'd be grateful if someone could tell me whether I will need to seal it with anything special first, to stop moisture or resin getting out and spoiling the paint?

Or do I basically need just an oil-based primer, followed by an oil- based undercoat and gloss top coat, and that's it?

You *might* need to seal any knots with knotting sealant (but probably not).

Alternatively, use a breathable paint like Sadolin Superdec

Holkam Linseed Paint

both keep water out, but allow any resin out and allow any moisture to evaporate. Neither are particularly glossy though (particularly the linseed paint), so if that's the finish you want you'll be fine as you were.
