Roughcast repair job help

Small bits of roughcast from my garage and porch have fallen off exposing the brick behind. Other bits are not very sound as when i lightly tap it i get a hollow sound so i reckon it needs to come off. Id like to repair it myself but im not sure what i need to do the job, is it just a cement type mixture? The existing roughcast is greyey/cream colour in a sort of rippled effect, not pebble harling.

TIA

Doug

a more local builder for this type of job. It isn't something one can do in a weekend if you're not up to the know how.

My question is why is it rendered? Some render is nothing but bad news, and cant be removed without wrecking the brickwork, until 30 years or so have made the render fall off by itself. So it can sometimes be fortunate when render falls off, and in these cases is best not rerendered. It may be worth asking about this here before recoating it.

What is render? Where the roughcast has fallen off it hasnt taken any of the brick away at all. The roughcast has been on for about 20 years i think Im just looking to patch up the holes left by the fallen off bits and then paint the whole thing white.

then do :) Its only sensible to knock off the hollow sounding areas first, otherwise more will dropping off. Modern bricks or Victorian?
