Replacing render behind a wood burner with tiles

As mentioned some time back the render behind the stove pipe for our wood burner has started to crumble. This after about 10 years.

Doing like for like as a repair/replace is likely to have the same issue after a period of time.

Ceramic tiles seem a possible alternative.

Is there any general advice on which type of tile (do they have to be special heat resistant?) and what backing? This is on a stud wall.

There is about a 55mm gap between the flue and the render, where the worst cracking is, but the cracks have spread across the whole back of the fireplace area.

I cant see anything really lasting well on a stud wall.

Its likely the slight flexing and the hot/cold cycling will bugger any kind of coating If its decorative a wall built of brick slips - the thin facing things - might stand up if not rigidly attached.

If you do try tiles use something other than acrylic based cement The tiles themselves will probably take the strain - they are all fired at red heat or thereabouts anyway - its the adhesive bod to the studs I would be afraid of.

Why not just stick up some masterboard fireproof board and paint it black with stove paint?
