Refinishing varnished floor

Jul 14, 2007 1 Replies

Hi,

I have pine floorboards which I sanded and varnished some time ago with Ronseal diamond hard clear satin varnish. The floor really needs redoing - there are a few places where the varnish has come away, after some very sticky adhesive tape was stuck to it and then pulled up. Do I need to sand back to bare wood, or can I just key the existing varnish and put on another couple of coats?

Cheers!

Martin

The latter normally works well enough with polyurethane but it sands easily, and doesn't clog the paper, if you want to go the whole hog
