My shed desperately needs refelting. I have been told to get some felt and glue it on, whereas at the moment it is only nailed on using galvanised nails (manufacturers did this). What is a reasonable felt to use and is there any advantage in gluing it on as opposed to nailing, apart from it is easier to remove ?
I saw a website that said just glue any overlaps by about 2".
I've used bog standard "shed roof felt" on our shed nailed with clouts every couple of inches along the exposed edges and every 6 inches undner the 6" or so overlap. It survives our weather at 1400' and exposed. Most of the stones have now come off but it's still water tight. The last time I refelted it was after this:
If the current felt is well fixed, then you could treat it as an under felt, and slap a torch on cap sheet on top of it. The decent stuff (mineral finish, 4mm thick, modified bitumen) comes on 8m rolls (1m wide), usually at about £40 a roll. One will often do a shed.
