No. The old micro USB connector would invariably be inserted the wrong way round and destroy the socket. That doesn't happen with the 'C' variety. However they do seem to have chunkier cables to cope with the increased charging current.

No. They seem to be a lot stronger than micro-USB and mini-USB. They can also give some impressive capabilities that are not available with the other types.
I like them.

Ditto. USB C is way more robust mechanically than the mini or micro plugs.
