My wife has fitted a mobile phone holder to her car - the double sided adhesive pad (40mm dia) has stuck to the dashboard OK but the holder has come off it. Is there a suitable glue for re-attaching it, please ?

Double-sided carpet tape; use that in conjunction with the old pad. Or just replace the pad.

Remove old pad. Buy packet of new ones from a shed. Clean areas for the new pad with meths or similar non-oily degreaser.
Car mirror sticking pads are much stronger than carpet tape or the ordinary foam ones from the sheds: the problem is probably that the offset weight of the phone tends to peel the joint apart.
