Garden Lighting Wiring

Hi,

Apologies if this has been covered many times before but I haven' managed to find it.

In an outdoor location:- Is it ok to have a mains voltage cable run protected in some kind o conduit without the need to use SWA or to bury the cable? If so, does the conduit need to be made of metal, or is plastic ok? The cable run would need to be up to 3 metres long and would run dow the side of an exterior wall, and then possibly along the side joist o some decking -It would be clearly visible.

Thanks for your help

Yes, but it's often easier to use a suitable cable such as SWA or Hi-Tuff.

For that application then plastic conduit would probably be ok. Take into account waterproofing / IP rating of joints and connections, allowing for drainage of moisture within the conduit, and solar temperature gain.
