But the introduction of humid new air is significant. It's hard to make a frost free freezer, unlike a fridge. It depends how much you are in there though. My upright freezer goes 6 months between clean outs, but I open it once a day at most.

My chest got defrosted this year afer ..umm. well at least 8 years anyway.I cant remember if it got defrosted when I rebuilt the house. I guess it must have done.
The upright fridge-freezers are at least once every 2 years, usually more.
Same as an upright.

Sometimes, this years cheap is last years state of the art so by buying cheap X times you can continually upgrade whilst remaining a little behind the curve populated by those who simply must buy the latest "must have" feature.
