Quick question - Stanley sliding wardrobe doors - top hung.

We have a set of four Stanley sliding wardrobe doors in the front bedroom which we would like to replace as they are looking a bit tired.

We would like to replace them with mirror doors.

They are a standard size - 36" wide and 89" high.

So far so good - however our doors are top hung and the ones in the sheds

- HomeBase and B&Q - seem to take all the weight on the bottom runners and just have a locating strip at the top.

So the doors are not a straight swap.

Has anyone encountered and solved this one?

We could buy another top rail, or even a top and bottom rail, but it would save a lot of hassle if we could top hang the doors, preferably with new runners but if necessary using the existing runners on the new doors.

However we don't know if the parts are interchangeable.

Google is being only moderately helpful at the moment.

Cheers

Could you simply attach mirrored glass to your existing doors? Assuming the running gear is OK - you say the doors 'look tired' rather than worn out.

Wickes ones are top hung IIRC.

I recently replaced an old Henderson sliding door mechanism, and the new version is well-made, sturdy, and good. The door is heavy, as well.

The Medway Handyman grunted in news:z62Yt.113928$ snipped-for-privacy@fx03.am:

Are yours definitely Stanley? Just that I've fitted several Stanleys (and clones thereof) over the past 10-12 years, and they've all been like the ones you describe above. (Maybe they've changed, of course?)

Are you sure - last ones I bought from there, about 18 months ago, were certainly Stanley-made, and as described above

Well, the runners have Stanley written on them and the wardrobes are by no means new.
