Immersion heater timer

I'm looking for a reliable but cheap digital timer for my immersion heater. I'd be willing to pay more for one that can be accessed over the internet, or at least from a smart phone.

Any and all suggestions gratefully received.

Wouldn't it be easier to simply insulate your cylinder well? Then it wouldn't much matter when you heat the water - within reason.

It will cope with a 2kW immersion, if yours is rated higher then you'll need an additional higher rated relay.

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to insulate the tank properly?

Ours easily stays hot overnight and isn't all that well done.

Has two 250 VAC / 10A (2500 VA) relays, hack the board so they both operate at the same time and use them in parallel? Would slight differences in actual switching times between the relays be a problem in real life? Indeed would the "overload" of 2.5 A (3 kW @ 240 V =

12.5 A) into a non-reactive load shorten the life of a relay that much? You have a spare...

Depends if you are bodger, and engineer or an engineer who bodges.

The amount of use my immersion heater gets used I'd suspect it would probably last longer than the element.

Relay contacts in parallel don't double the contact rating, because the current flow will not be balanced between them, and they won't both open and close at exactly the same time.

Immersion heaters do need adequately rated relay/switch contacts, preferably with some headroom to spare. This is even more important if they are installed in a warm cupboard full of flammable clothes.
